JUDAH FRIEDLANDER / Paul
Judah Friedlander is a stand-up comedian and actor who gained international acclaim for his performance in American Splendor.
Currently, Judah is a series regular on NBC’s Thursday night half hour comedy “30 Rock,” which just won the Emmy for Best Comedy Series, co-starring with Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin. Judah also continues to maintain a busy stand-up comedy schedule and feature film schedule.
In 2004, Judah Friedlander was nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the 2004 Independent Spirit Emmy for his role in American Splendor. The New York Times Magazine also picked him as one of the best actors of 2004 and had a full-page portrait of Judah. USA Today called Judah’s work “the supporting performance of the year.” American Splendor won the Grand Jury Prize at the 2003 Sundance Film Festival, the International Film Critics’ Prize at the Cannes Film Festival, was named the best film of the year by Newsweek magazine and the National Society of Film Critics, was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Screenplay, and was the best reviewed movie of 2003. In American Splendor, Judah plays the key supporting role of Toby Radloff, the self-proclaimed “Genuine Nerd.” To assume the role of the real life Toby Radloff 15 years younger, Judah totally transformed himself – drastically changing his appearance, voice, and mannerisms to the point that he is unrecognizable.
In stand-up and on TV, Judah is known for his unique comedy and universal appeal as well as his trademark looks – the World Champion mesh hat, big glasses, big sideburns and long hair. But in his film work, Judah is known for comedy and drama, as well as completely transforming himself – so that he looks and acts completely different than he normally does and is unrecognizable in the character he embodies.
